What is Cubie?
Cubie is a browser-based voxel editor designed specifically for 3D printing. Unlike traditional CAD software or sculpting tools, Cubie uses a "digital lego" approach (voxels) to make 3D modeling accessible to everyone.
Core Philosophy
- Voxel-First: If you can stack blocks, you can model.
- Print-Ready: All models are watertight and ready for slicing.
- Automated Engineering: Creating articulated (moving) parts usually requires complex calculations. Cubie handles this automatically — joints are generated at connection points when you enter Assembly mode.
Who is it for?
- Beginners: Create your first 3D print in minutes.
- Toy Designers: Rapidly prototype and produce articulated figures.
- Educators: Teach spatial reasoning and design without the learning curve of CAD.
Quick Start
- Draw: Use voxels (blocks) to create your shape in Sketch mode.
- Assemble: Switch to Assembly mode — the model automatically splits into parts and joints are generated at connection points.
- Refine: Use Split, Merge, Reliefs and other context menu tools to fine-tune your model.
- Print: Export STL, choose orientation in the preview, and print. Snap the joints together after printing.
Key Features
- Browser-Based: No installation required.
- Auto-Articulation: Convert static models to snap-fit articulated toys instantly.
- Relief System: Add surface detail (domes, spikes, bevels, and more) to simple blocks.
- Texture Cavities: Create hollow shells with gyroid, cellular, and other patterns.
- Edge Rounding: Smooth voxel edges for a more polished look.
- Export to STL: Universal format for all 3D printers, with multi-part support for multi-color printing.
